Join LCSWMA and PPL Renewable Energy on Saturday, May 17 for the 4th Annual Spring Wind Tours event at the Wind Project at Turkey Point.
The 3.2 megawatt project, owned by PPL Renewable Energy, is located on LCSWMA’s Frey Farm Landfill in Lancaster County along the Susquehanna River. The power generated by the two 1.6 megawatt wind turbines is purchased by the adjacent Turkey Hill Dairy, maker of high-quality ice cream, milk and tea products.
The wind project generates about 21-25% of Turkey Hill Dairy’s annual electric needs – that’s enough power to produce five million gallons of ice cream each year!
During the Annual Wind Tours event, visitors have the opportunity to see the two wind turbines, hear from our experts and enjoy some delicious Turkey Hill ice cream.
Free 30-minute tours will depart from Creswell Park in Conestoga at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Pre registration is required and seating is limited, so be sure to sign up early!
To claim your spot, register online by visiting www.lcswma.org/windtours or call Allison Vollmer, Public Relations Coordinator, at 717-397-9968 ext. 196 to register over the phone.

On May 12th 2012, LCSWMA and PPL Renewable Energy once again offered free public tours of the Wind Project at Turkey Point. Over 350 adults and children toured this wind energy project located at our Frey Farm Landfill.
Visitors were shuttled from Creswell Park to the wind project site where they enjoyed a scenic view of the Susquehanna River and some delicious Turkey Hill ice cream. Visitors also received a tour of our Rieber House Welcome Center, a restored and renovated circa 1770 farmhouse. There, they viewed photos and a video of the wind turbine construction process from fall 2010. Finally, each guest received a small gift to commemorate their day.
Don’t worry if you missed this year’s tour. We offer this tour annually (pre-registration is required). Make sure you sign up for our Green Team e-newsletter list to receive an advanced invite to this event and more.
