What do you accept for recycling?
LCSWMA provides drop-off services to residents of Lancaster County at the Transfer Station Complex, Waste-to-Energy Facility and Frey Farm Landfill. Residents may put #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass jars and bottles, and steel/tin cans in the containers at their convenience. LCSWMA also accepts white goods (large appliances), tires, batteries, computers and fluorescent lamps for recycling.
Do you recycle paper, other than newsprint?
No, paper is burned at LCSWMA's Waste-to-Energy Facility and turned into renewable energy (electricity).

Do you supply recycle bins?
No, recycle bins are provided by the municipality in which you live.

Why wasn't our trash picked up?
LCSWMA does not pick-up your curbside trash. That service is provided by outside haulers. LCSWMA manages the processing of waste once it is delivered to us by private haulers. Do you shred paper?

Will you accept my mattress and box spring?
Yes, mattress and box springs are processed as trash. You may dispose of one item (up to 200 lbs) for $15. More than one item or over 200 lbs or trash meets the minimum rate of $30 (up to 820 lbs of trash).

No, microwaves are processed as trash. You may dispose of one item (up to 200 lbs) for $15. More than one item of over 200 lbs or trash meets the minimum rate of $30 (up to 820 lbs of trash).
How should I dispose of my prescription medicine?
The Office of National Drug Control Policy has issued guidelines for the proper disposal of prescription drugs:
Take unused, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs out of their original containers.
Mix prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, like used coffee grounds or kitty litter, and put them in impermeable, nondescript containers, such as empty cans with secure lids or sealable bags, to further ensure the drugs are not used or accidentally ingested by children and pets.
Throw the repackaged drugs in the trash.
Do not flush prescription drugs down the toilet unless the label or information specifies to do so.
What should I do with my needles from insulin?
For the safe management of "sharps", such as needles, syringes or lancets, LCSWMA provides residents with a complimentary Safe Clip, a device that clips the needle off and automatically and safely stores it in an attached receptacle. The Safe Clip, which holds up to 1,000 needles, can be mailed to you or picked up at LCSWMA's Administrative Office (1299 Harrisburg Pike). Simply return the full Safe Clip to any LCSWMA scale house or the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for processing.
What should I do with my medical waste?
For in-home medical waste, such as soiled bandages, disposable sheets and rubber gloves, LCSWMA provides residents with medical buckets, free of charge. The medical bucket can be picked up at LCSWMA's Administrative Office (1299 Harrisburg Pike). Simply return the full medical bucket to any LCSWMA scale house or the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for processing.
