Transfer
Station Overview
Providing
Convenience and Reducing Truck Traffic
Every
year, over 75,000 loads cross the scales at the Transfer Station, which
consolidates and compacts waste for transfer to the Resource Recovery
Facility or the Frey Farm Landfill.
The Transfer Station in Manheim Township
is active Monday through Saturday, as an average of more than
250 commercial haulers and residents arrive every day with
refuse as well as certain construction and demolition debris.
Electronic scales calculate the weight of each load, and compliance
officers inspect the loads to verify their content.
In addition to its convenient location,
a major benefit of the Transfer Station is that it greatly
reduces truck traffic on the county’s highways by serving
as a waste delivery consolidation point. In fact, for every
five vehicles that enter the facility, only one is needed
to haul compacted waste on the final leg of its disposal journey.
